Italy Chiltons. Buying properties in Lake Como Italy is as diverse as its scenery and that’s why so many people love this place. Its beauty, tranquillity, restaurants, hotels and people are all part of its natural history, in other words for me it has the X factor.
Most are fooled into thinking that to live and buy a property in Lake Como you need to be wealthy, well that definitely is not the case and believe it or not you don’t have to have the bank balance of George Clooney! It can be an affordable and fun place to take the family with loads of extremely low budget Airlines flying in to three Milan International airports Malpenser, Linate and Orio al Serio in Bergamo.
Originally I’m from the UK and I have been living in Lake Como for over seven years and love it every bit. Whilst living there I started Italy Chiltons and have never looked back as the interest for buying property here has grown dramatically in that time especially for second home buyers either for holidaying, relocation or retirement purposes.
Let me tell you why the second home property market thrives here. Apart from the several reasons above you are situated in clearly one of the most historic zone of the world with its glacial origin. From west to east lays Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano Lake Como, Lake Iseo, Lake Idro and then Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy. These examples are just the start!
Seasonally, you have the long hot summers with temperatures reaching most years close to 40°c, long mild springs and very short cold winters with lots of snow. For me this gives me the chance to feel good throughout the summer and spring and enjoy the Alps skiing resorts literally on the doorstep.
On Lake Como properties can be found within most budgets with one or two bedroom apartment prices starting from around 75,000 euro’s for front lake position your need a little more. The dream Villa will set you back starting from around 750,000 up to 10 million euro’s plus mark. When I said diverse now you know what I meant! What I’m saying is you can have a similar life style as the rich and famous and almost live under the same roof!
A ferry trip travelling day out is a must between the heart of Lake Como visiting the more popular towns of Cernobbio, Bellagio, Menaggio and if you are adventurous enough it will take you all the way north of the lake to Dongo, Colico and Domaso that has pure stunning beauty. The most popular of the stops still remains Bellagio, but it can be a bit croededthese days depending on your seasonal visiting time!
